2. Kevin Burgemeestre (May 18-June 2 2012)

Second was Kevin Burgemeestre, illustrator and writer of scores of books for young readers, including B is for Bravo, and the Uncle Eddie Books.  


Kevin was selected because of his reputation in delivering very high quality workshops in illustration for students of all ages, and because of his experiences as a working illustrator for many years.  Kevin delivered a range of workshops for adults and children that were well attended and very positively received.  These included:  

Charcoal workshops with primary school students from Martins Gully Primary School and Kingstown Primary School.  

Charcoal Workshops with Year 7 students at the Armidale School.  

Two public weekend workshops ‘Working with Words and Images’ at New England Regional Art Museum.

Advanced Charcoal Workshop, at New England Regional Art Museum.

On-Campus workshop for students of UNE and TAFE, at University.  

Visits to New England TAFE, and Armidale Branch of the NSW Children’s Book Council.  

Interviews with ABC New England, Kelly Fuller, and the Armidale Independent.

While a resident on-campus, Kevin worked on illustrations for his novel, Kate, forthcoming from Morris Publishing.  Kevin also met Antonia Feitz, the writer of Mr Lively’s Lighthouse (1988), which was an early commission for him.  They are working to regain the copyright of this book.
