VISUAL STORYTELLING

Have you ever thought about how pictures tell stories?  Or how words create pictures?  Have you ever thought about how to look at a picture—how to read it—for the stories within?

At this symposium, held at UNE on May 16, storytellers, illustrators, and academics take a look at the intricacies of visual storytelling: the way words and images fit together to create all sorts of exciting and challenging meanings.

A special treat will be demonstrations from practitioners:

Lisa Stewart, illustrator, and Jules Faber, cartoonist, will show how they respond in their unique visual styles to the famous Jabberwocky, by Lewis Carroll.  It will be a unique opportunity to see how new approaches to illustration and visual storytelling offer fresh insights into a famous text.

The symposium is funded by Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund and supported by the School of Arts.
